Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pharmacy Technician Lead to join our team at Advocate Health. As a Pharmacy Technician Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing the activities of the pharmacy technician staff, ensuring timely completion and accuracy of work, and providing leadership on complex issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the activities of the pharmacy technician staff to ensure timely completion and accuracy of work.
  • Act as a resource for the department and provide leadership on complex issues.
  • Assist with human resource responsibilities, including interviewing and selection of new employees, staff development, and employee morale.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to regulatory and compliance standards, and that patient information is kept confidential.
  • Perform general housekeeping, medication recalls and returns, capital returns processing, and cashiering.
  • Process new patient data entry and/or automatic refill in a timely manner.
  • Perform limited insurance and third-party system-wide billing functions for prescription claims.
  • Investigate delinquent accounts and other insurance issues by reviewing benefits, contacting insurance companies, and communicating with third-party administrators and occasionally customers.
Requirements
  • Licensure (IL only): State of Wisconsin (registration)
  • Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Student; Certification (CPhT) issued by PTCB or ExCPT within two years of hire, or sooner if required by law.
  • Patient-facing teammates may be required to have two certifications: Immunization and non-vaccine injectable to be granted from the state of WI or if from out of state, the program is approved by the accreditation council for pharmacy education (ACPE) or by the WI pharmacy examining board.
  • High School Graduate.
  • Typically requires 3 years of experience in a pharmacy technician position that includes experience with third-party insurance or Medicare within a retail environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated leadership skills such as delegation, team building, managing multiple priorities, problem solving, and decision making.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medication usage to appropriately identify the correctness of billing as well as appropriateness of medications for processing.
  • Ability to understand and become knowledgeable of pharmacy standards, policies, procedures, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.
  • Intermediate computer skills including the ability to navigate through a database and run reports.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Exceptional customer service and organization skills.
  • Must have high attention to detail and accuracy, and strong mathematical skills.
Working Conditions
  • Exposed to a normal office environment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. from floor to chest-level.
  • Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
  • Must be able to stand up majority of the workday.
  • Ability to deliver medications to via patient preferred mode (bedside, curbside, etc).
  • Flexibility to travel amongst Aurora Pharmacy locations.
