Position Overview: Lockheed Martin's Missile and Fire Control division is in search of skilled professionals to focus on High Performance Computing (HPC) and the application of supercomputing technologies to advance modeling and simulation capabilities. This role involves managing numerous clusters composed of thousands of servers and tens of thousands of CPU cores.


In this position, you will engage closely with customers and collaborate with engineers, developers, and scientists across various departments to facilitate their HPC applications.

Your responsibilities will include working alongside both cluster users and IT Systems Engineers to architect and construct scalable HPC frameworks, toolsets, and supporting infrastructure tailored to meet engineering specifications.


Programming and scripting will be significant aspects of your role, providing you with opportunities to enhance your skills across various programming languages.

You will be tasked with benchmarking and optimizing hardware, fabric, software, storage, and other adjustable components to enhance the performance and efficiency of applications running on HPC systems.

This will require extensive low-level troubleshooting and code manipulation to identify solutions across a wide range of challenges.


In addition to collaborating with cluster users and IT engineers, you will liaise with senior program management to ensure that HPC capabilities align with the overarching business strategy by providing relevant metrics and forecasts.

The successful candidate will not only inform the engineering community about the advantages of HPC but also provide one-on-one training to users on developing code and scripts for HPC execution.

Candidates may participate in special initiatives such as multi-level security (MLS) for HPC, big data analytics, DevSecOps CI/CD integration, Machine Learning (ML), and Hybrid Cloud.

A passion for continuous learning and skill development is essential.


Candidates may possess diverse backgrounds in fields such as computer science, chemical engineering, biology, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mathematics, aeronautics, or other related disciplines.

Security Clearance Requirement: An active Secret security clearance, investigated within the last five years, is required for this position.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting Linux systems.
  • Experience in one or more programming or scripting languages such as C/C++, Java, Python, MATLAB, Perl, etc.
  • Proven experience in utilizing advanced solutions for various programs.

  • Experience thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Capability to navigate technical, project, operational, and resource challenges.

Preferred Skills:

  • Active Top Secret security clearance (investigation within the past six years).
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration, particularly in HPC applications using Singularity, Docker, Shifter, Kubernetes, etc.
  • Scripting skills for system administration (Ansible, Python, BASH, Perl, Batch, VBScript, PowerShell, etc.).
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge in High Performance Computing (HPC).
  • Creative problem-solver capable of developing and implementing innovative solutions.
  • Preference for designing, constructing, scripting, and documenting new environments from scratch.
  • Extensive experience in Linux environments (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, SuSE, etc.).
  • Understanding of networking concepts related to routing and switching.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMWare, KVM, Hyper-V, etc.
  • Knowledge of NAS/SAN/PFS storage systems and associated networking.
  • Experience with Parallel File Systems (PFS) like Lustre or GPFS/Spectrum Scale.
  • Familiarity with workload management systems such as PBS Pro, SLURM, Torque, Oracle Grid Engine, etc.
  • Experience with cluster management tools like xCAT, Warewulf, Bright Cluster Manager, etc.
  • Security+, CISSP, or other IAT Level II/III security certifications are preferred.
  • Knowledge or experience with Multi-Level Security (MLS) or Multi-Category Security (MCS) solutions.
  • Experience with DevOps/DevSecOps CI/CD pipelines and software version control systems like Git.
