Key Responsibilities
- Assist clients in understanding immigration benefits and gather necessary documentation under attorney supervision.
- Collaborate with interpreters to ensure effective communication and accurate documentation.
- Support attorneys in drafting applications and following up with federal agencies regarding case statuses.
- Manage correspondence from federal agencies, updating case management systems and notifying clients accordingly.
- Respond to client inquiries about case statuses and assist in escalating cases as needed.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date client files and case notes, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
- Engage with clients and community partners through effective communication and outreach efforts.
- Work towards Department of Justice accreditation by completing required training.
- Stay informed about relevant immigration laws and policies affecting clients.
- Uphold client confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards as outlined in Global Refuge's Practice Manual.
- Support the management of interns and volunteers as necessary.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required.
- Preferred two years of experience in a legal or related environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Proficiency in Spanish, Pashto, or Dari is highly desirable.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated cultural competence and experience working with diverse populations.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.
- Understanding of legal practices and pro bono culture is advantageous.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel.
- Flexibility to adapt to evolving program needs.
- Willingness to travel as required.
