Job Summary:

The Central Sterile Processing Specialist is responsible for carrying out procedures for department functions, including:

  • Washing, inspecting, packaging, and sterilizing instruments and equipment
  • Maintaining accurate monitoring records
  • Using and interpreting chemical and biological indicators
  • Performing appropriate cleaning of all sterilization equipment
  • Assisting OR personnel in locating and reprocessing instruments
  • Participating in performance improvement activities
  • Following established policies and procedures
  • Communicating openly with internal customers and supervisors
  • Providing excellent customer service and interfacing well with all levels of staff, management, and physicians

Requirements:

Previous operating room technician or central supply technician experience, including appropriate certification, is preferred. Previous surgical instrumentation and equipment decontamination and sterilization experience, with familiarity of various instrument sterilization methods, is required.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer service skills, initiative, and the ability to take independent action, as well as establish and maintain outstanding working relationships.

Education and Certification:

A High School Diploma or Equivalent is required. The Central Sterile Processing Specialist must be certified as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPD) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST).
