Job Summary

The Pathologists' Assistant (PA) plays a vital role in providing anatomic pathology services, including describing, dissecting, and submitting human surgical and autopsy specimens for review and diagnosis by a pathologist. This position is responsible for educating pathology residents in the grossing laboratory, autopsy suite, and other areas as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Education and Training: Provide guidance and instruction to pathology residents in the grossing laboratory, autopsy suite, and other areas as needed.
  • Specimen Integrity: Maintain specimen identification integrity at all times, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
  • Gross Examination and Dictation: Perform gross examination and dictation of surgical and autopsy specimens, providing detailed descriptions for pathologists to review.
  • Instrumentation and Maintenance: Maintain instrumentation as needed in all areas of anatomic pathology, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Operations Coordination: Assist in the organization and coordination of operations in surgical pathology and autopsy pathology, ensuring smooth workflow and effective communication.
  • Accreditation and Quality: Maintain accreditation standard requirements in all areas of anatomic pathology, ensuring compliance and quality performance.
  • Data Collection and Reporting: Collect and maintain data for the department, reporting on quality performance for anatomic pathology as required.
  • Administrative and Clerical Duties: Perform administrative and clerical duties as needed, supporting the team's efforts.

  • Education: Master's degree in Science
  • Experience: No experience required
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication.
  • Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and gripping.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Rare climbing.
