Key Responsibilities
  • Historic Context Development: Conduct research and develop comprehensive historic contexts to inform our cultural resources management efforts.
  • Architectural Description and Evaluation: Prepare written architectural descriptions and evaluations of significance to support our project work.
  • Fieldwork and Data Collection: Perform fieldwork tasks, including photographing resources and using a tablet for data collection, to gather essential information.
  • Archival Research: Conduct thorough archival research online and at libraries and repositories to inform our project work.
  • Report Development: Prepare inventory forms and technical reports to support our project deliverables.
  • Consultation and Collaboration: Support consultation with state, federal, and local agencies to ensure effective collaboration and communication.
  • Special Projects: Participate in special projects, including local and National Register of Historic Places nominations, historic preservation plans, historic structure reports, cultural resource education materials, Historic American Buildings Survey/Historic American Engineering Record (HABS/HAER) documentation, and planning and implementing mitigation.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Cultural Resources Program Management: Possess basic knowledge of cultural resources program management, including experience with Section 106 compliance and interaction with Federal agencies.
  • Interdisciplinary Teamwork: Be able to work independently as well as part of an interdisciplinary team with other cultural resources and environmental professionals.
  • Communication Skills: Possess strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Travel and Mobility: Be willing to travel to meet project needs and possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
Education and Experience

We're seeking a candidate with a graduate degree (M.A., M.S., MHC) or certificate in public history, heritage conservation, architectural history, historic preservation, planning, or a related field that meets the Secretary of the Interior's Guidelines for Professional Qualification Standards for Architectural History. At least 2 years of experience as an architectural historian/built environment specialist working in cultural resources management or a closely related field is desired but not required.

This position works in both field and office settings, requiring the ability to work in various environments and conditions. Field work may include exposure to the elements, remote locations, and physical demands such as bending, stooping, carrying field equipment, standing, and walking for extended periods.
