Overview:
In partnership with patients, families (as defined by the patient), and interdisciplinary staff, this role is responsible for executing specific clinical responsibilities, which encompass both administrative and patient care tasks, as well as managing clerical duties associated with patient intake.
Responsibilities:
Key Duties:
- Conduct thorough patient interviews, documenting medical history and accurately measuring vital signs, including height, weight, BMI, head circumference, current medications, pulse oximetry levels, and patient comfort assessments.
- Confirm patient details such as demographics, insurance information, vital signs, and medications; complete the intake process by verifying and entering patient data into electronic health records (EHR).
- Perform welcoming duties for patients in a professional manner, manage phone inquiries, and provide necessary information while verifying patient data.
- Execute CLIA waived laboratory tests, including but not limited to: urine dip tests, pregnancy assessments, fingerstick blood glucose levels, fecal occult blood tests, rapid influenza tests, and rapid strep tests.
- Collect, prepare, and document various specimen collections, including blood, urine, stool, and sputum samples.
- Carry out assigned clinical tasks, which may include preparing patients for examinations or treatments, assisting healthcare providers during exams or procedures, setting up examination rooms, and preparing instruments for sterilization.
- Engage in pre-visit planning to enhance the clinical visit experience.
- Administer medications according to established protocols.
- Execute medical procedures as outlined by Standing Delegation Orders.
- Conclude patient visits by completing documented orders, tasks, and care plans.
- Participate in the orientation of new staff members and attend required meetings.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, patients, and providers to ensure seamless communication and coordination of patient care and workflow.
- Oversee and manage patient care, including communicating test results, assisting with pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, and scheduling appointments for clinics, hospitals, and other ancillary medical services. Ensure follow-up on diagnostic tests to confirm completion and documentation in EHR.
- Conduct surveillance programs, ensuring comprehensive medical records are maintained, including labs, authorizations, X-rays, hospital records, and any prior care relevant to each patient visit.
- Maintain a clean and functional environment by adhering to cleaning and disinfection protocols for equipment, examination rooms, and storage areas as per established guidelines.

o Procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals,
o Patient education and explanations of risks and benefits,
o Provider-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions, and instructions for patient or family self-care and follow-up.
o Prepare referral letters as directed by the provider.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Medical Assistant Diploma and/or National Medical Assistant Certification confirming completion of a Medical Assistant Program or equivalent military healthcare experience.
Minimum Experience:
- Completion of a medical assistant externship.
Required Certifications/Licensure:
Current Health Care Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification through an accredited organization. Maintenance of current CPR certification is required throughout employment.
