As an Automotive Technician, you will work under general supervision to diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a diverse range of vehicles and equipment utilized by City departments.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct routine maintenance on vehicles, including oil changes, tire rotations, and brake servicing.
2. Identify and resolve mechanical issues; disassemble and repair engines, transmissions, and differentials; replace pumps, cylinders, and valves.
3. Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization within the workshop, as well as on vehicles and equipment.
4. Utilize welding and fabrication techniques with various tools to perform repairs.
5. Engage in facility maintenance and repair tasks as needed.
6. Equip new vehicles and systems with necessary communication devices, networking hardware, and safety apparatus.
7. Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required, along with four (4) years of experience in the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of various types of construction-related equipment; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge Requirements:
- Familiarity with applicable local, state, and federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
- Understanding of customer service principles and practices.
- Knowledge of records maintenance and retention policies.
- Awareness of workplace safety policies and equipment.
- Proficiency in welding and fabrication methods.
- Understanding of electrical and computer systems in vehicles.
- Knowledge of hydraulic, electric, fuel injection, and computer systems.
- General knowledge of the various vehicles and equipment used by the City.
Skills Required:
- Ability to read and interpret repair and operator manuals accurately.
- Proficient in operating various tools and equipment.
- Skilled in diagnosing and troubleshooting vehicle and equipment issues.
- Capable of interacting professionally with City staff, external agencies, and the public.
- Strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Competent in analyzing complex issues and implementing suitable solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
