Job Summary:

As a Respiratory Care Practitioner - Sleep Specialist at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a crucial role in planning, developing, and implementing respiratory care programs that provide high-quality, cost-effective care for patients with sleep disorders. You will collaborate with managers, physicians, and patient care staff to identify and resolve pulmonary care system issues, ensuring seamless patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Educate patients on various sleep disorders in a classroom setting.
  • Instruct patients on home diagnostic sleep equipment and therapeutic equipment for Obstructive Sleep Apnea and other home ventilatory support systems.
  • Read sleep studies and provide preliminary diagnoses to patients.
  • Process referrals to other sleep entities and healthy living providers.
  • Assist in planning, developing, and implementing respiratory care programs for patients with COPD, hypoventilation, neuro-muscular disease, Sleep Apnea, and other sleep disorders.
  • Collaborate with managers, physicians, and patient care staff to identify and resolve sleep disorder issues and pulmonary care issues.
  • Conduct follow-up consultations with CPAP users to ensure adherence or refer patients to alternative treatment.
  • Inform patients of the sleep physician's final results.
  • Provide case manager consultations to patients referred by physicians.

Requirements:

  • Minimum one year of sleep disorder-related experience required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Care, Health Care Administration, or four years of experience in a directly related field required.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • Polysomnographic Technologist Certificate from Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists or Registered Respiratory Therapist - Sleep Disorder Specialist Certificate from National Board of Respiratory Care required.
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner License (California) required.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist Certificate from National Board of Respiratory Care required.
  • Basic Life Support required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recent experience facilitating performance improvement projects and experience planning, coordinating, and implementing programs preferred.
  • Recent experience in patient education in respiratory disease and sleep disorders preferred.
