Overview

The Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist plays a crucial role in promoting employment as a vital component of mental health recovery. This position is responsible for overseeing daily vocational program activities and facilitating connections for clients seeking job opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Builds and nurtures trusting relationships with clients, guiding them towards achieving competitive employment in inclusive community settings.
  • Provides clients with essential information regarding their benefits (e.g., SSI, Medicaid) and the implications of employment, ensuring informed decision-making regarding job opportunities.
  • Continuously evaluates clients' vocational capabilities by utilizing their background and work history.
  • With consent, offers educational support to family members and discusses clients' preferences regarding the disclosure of their mental health status to potential employers.
  • Engages in job development and search initiatives tailored to the unique interests and needs of clients, adhering to the principles of Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model.
  • Conducts a minimum of six employer outreach activities weekly to understand business needs and highlight client strengths relevant to available positions.
  • Delivers personalized follow-up support to assist clients in sustaining their employment.
  • Collaborates with clients to create job support plans, integrating feedback from the mental health team and adjusting plans based on clients' evolving needs.
  • Educates and supports employers as needed, which may involve negotiating job accommodations and maintaining contact post-placement.
  • Ensures timely communication, responding to client inquiries within 24 hours and addressing job-related issues promptly.
  • Meets with clients before and after job placements to ensure a smooth transition.
  • Participates in weekly interdisciplinary meetings with the mental health treatment team to coordinate vocational services with overall treatment plans.
  • Develops individualized employment or education plans, incorporating insights from the mental health team and family members when permitted.
  • Spends a significant portion of work hours engaging with the community.
  • Completes necessary electronic health records and documentation for vocational rehabilitation.
  • Educates colleagues about employment opportunities and meaningful roles for job seekers.
  • Attends team meetings to foster collaboration and communication.
  • Embodies and promotes the mission, vision, and values of Solvista Health.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficient in delivering services aligned with the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model.
  • Familiarity with job search methodologies and tools.
  • Capability to facilitate successful job placements.
  • Ability to inspire and support job seekers in their employment roles.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a focus on teamwork to assist job seekers.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization abilities.
  • Outstanding customer service skills, including public relations and community engagement.
  • Capacity to multitask and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • General awareness of local resources available to job seekers.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Word and email.
  • Willingness to learn new technology tools as needed.
Education and Training:

Level I
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, vocational rehabilitation, or related fields.

  • Equivalent education and experience in mental health or social services.
Level II
  • Completion of state-level training.
  • Completion of motivational interviewing training.
  • Achievement of sustainability goals for a minimum of four consecutive months.
  • One year of service at Solvista Health.
Level III
  • Passing score of 80% or higher on the national certification exam.
  • Achievement of sustainability goals for at least six consecutive months.
  • Three years of service at Solvista Health.
Experience:
  • Preferred two years of experience in job development or vocational rehabilitation with similar populations.
  • Experience with State Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) policies and procedures for supported employment, disability benefits, and work allowances is preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals with severe mental illness and providing employment services is advantageous.
Working Conditions

This role operates in a dynamic office environment and frequently requires the use of standard office equipment. The position may involve travel for meetings and conferences. The work environment may expose the employee to various elements, including potential contact with individuals who may be emotionally distressed.

Physical Requirements
This is primarily a sedentary role, but may require standing or sitting for extended periods, bending, and using hands for paperwork or equipment operation. Regular communication and interaction with clients are essential.

Conditions of Employment
  • Annual TB screening, drug screening, and compliance with vaccination policies are required.
  • A valid state driver's license is necessary.
  • Successful candidates must pass a post-offer drug screening.
