Fleet Technician

Clayton County is seeking a skilled Fleet Technician to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on a variety of County vehicles and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnose and repair complex vehicle and equipment problems using advanced electronic and computerized diagnostic equipment
Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake pad replacements
Troubleshoot and repair issues with engines, transmissions, and other vehicle systems
Assist in monitoring inventory levels of parts and supplies, and initiate requests for new or replacement materials
Perform welding and fabrication tasks as needed
Operate and maintain a variety of machinery and equipment, including power tools and hand tools
Respond to calls from County personnel for roadside assistance and perform repairs remotely in the field as required
Prepare vehicle maintenance reports, records, and logs of work performed, parts used and replaced, and hours worked
Research repair methods, review service history, and read and utilize repair manuals, industry software, internet resources, schematics, wiring diagrams, and other technical materials
Assist with training, instructing, and oversight of co-workers, as well as diagnostic and repair methods
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training in auto mechanics or a related field preferred
2-5 years of experience in auto mechanics and/or equipment repair work required, depending on classification
Valid Georgia driver's license required; Georgia CDL license preferred
ASE certifications in automotive repair and/or heavy equipment repair preferred
Ability to interpret operator's complaint/request and effectively communicate outcomes and findings
Attention to detail and ability to follow precise direction required
Working Conditions
Regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, and crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds)
Regular and sustained work overhead is typical
Exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, odors, wetness, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, and toxic agents
