Role Overview:

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Principal Manufacturing Engineer to join our Lifecycle Sustainment Operations (LCSO) Team within the Manufacturing Organization.

The LCSO team is responsible for electronic testing and repair operations across various programs for both Department of Defense and international military clients.

This role involves executing low-volume production, including the manufacturing of spare Line Replaceable Units (LRUs), prototype development, and the creation of unique components and systems to support engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining, and material handling.
  • Develop process documentation for both new and existing systems, including Bonding, Mechanical Fabrication, Coating, and Additive Manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with the chief engineer to formulate repair procedures.
  • Assess incoming production for feasibility and process definition.
  • Establish fabrication processes based on component features, materials, and dimensions.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive work instructions.
  • Design sequences of operations and specify procedures for tool and equipment fabrication, impacting product performance.
  • Develop maintenance protocols for equipment and liaise with relevant teams for maintenance support.
  • Assist in maintaining environmental test equipment.
  • Support routing development and other Industrial Engineering activities.
  • Facilitate the ongoing expansion of LCSO, including relocations and facility build-outs.
  • Design efficient layouts for machines within plant facilities to maximize productivity.
  • Provide supplier support to resolve issues within the supply chain.
  • Contribute to Request for Proposal (RFP) inputs related to Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE) requirements.

This position may be filled as a Principal Manufacturing Engineer or Manufacturing Engineer based on the qualifications outlined below.

Qualifications:

Manufacturing Engineer:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related STEM field with 2+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in Engineering or a related STEM field with 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Strong understanding of CAD software with prior experience in drafting/modeling.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a U.S. Secret Level Security Clearance.

Principal Manufacturing Engineer:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related STEM field with 5+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in Engineering or a related STEM field with 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Strong understanding of CAD software with prior experience in drafting/modeling.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a U.S. Secret Level Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with J-STD and MIL-STD requirements.
  • Experience with 3D modeling in Unigraphics/NX.
  • Knowledge of machining processes.
  • Experience with Teamcenter Manufacturing tool suite and Manufacturing Process Planning.
  • Understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Six Sigma concepts for process development and control.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
