Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Inpatient Coding Specialist to join our team at Advocate Health. As a key member of our coding team, you will be responsible for accurately assigning and sequencing diagnoses and procedure codes using ICD 10 CM and ICD 10 PCS codes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and abstract inpatient records to assign accurate codes
  • Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Specialists to validate diagnoses and ensure accurate coding
  • Work with the Coding Quality team to identify and implement coding quality recommendations
  • Verify abstracting of discharge disposition and ensure accurate coding
  • Assist in ensuring coding compliance with federal, state, and other regulatory agencies
Requirements
  • 7 years of experience in ICD-10-CM & ICD-10-PCS progressive inpatient coding experience
  • Proven competency in lower level inpatient records
  • Coding Specialist (CCS) certification or equivalent
  • Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or related field
Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and pathophysiology
  • Advanced knowledge of pharmacology and ancillary test results
  • Proficient with encoder software and other coding applications/tools
