We are seeking a highly skilled Inpatient Coding Specialist to join our team at Advocate Health. As a key member of our coding team, you will be responsible for accurately assigning and sequencing diagnoses and procedure codes using ICD 10 CM and ICD 10 PCS codes.
Key Responsibilities- Review and abstract inpatient records to assign accurate codes
- Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Specialists to validate diagnoses and ensure accurate coding
- Work with the Coding Quality team to identify and implement coding quality recommendations
- Verify abstracting of discharge disposition and ensure accurate coding
- Assist in ensuring coding compliance with federal, state, and other regulatory agencies
- 7 years of experience in ICD-10-CM & ICD-10-PCS progressive inpatient coding experience
- Proven competency in lower level inpatient records
- Coding Specialist (CCS) certification or equivalent
- Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or related field
- Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and pathophysiology
- Advanced knowledge of pharmacology and ancillary test results
- Proficient with encoder software and other coding applications/tools
