These teams collaborate across business units and global regions, transcending time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive policies, forecast financials, offer legal advice, protect systems, and nurture innovative initiatives. Every challenge presents new opportunities, and we value diverse perspectives to uncover them. Bring your unique viewpoint to Square.

Role Overview

The Compliance Engineering and Technology division at Square is responsible for identifying and reporting financial crime activities across our products, such as Cash App and Square. This team collaborates globally with engineering and legal partners to ensure compliance with regulatory standards while enhancing customer and agent experiences.

We are seeking an engineering leader to assist in developing innovative solutions that align with these objectives, becoming a part of our global compliance team. Given our scale, we monitor vast sums of money across both traditional payment systems and blockchain networks. Our mission includes detecting money laundering schemes before they affect our users and disrupt lives. Help us tackle these complex challenges using data science, machine learning, and effective tools. You will collaborate with our teams to present and visualize the necessary data in a clear and thoughtful manner. Together, we will enhance workflows and case management tools, incorporating features that boost agent productivity and automate the extensive monitoring and reporting processes we undertake.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal users and engineering teams to create tools that address our business challenges.
  • Lead a high-performing team, recruit exceptional talent, mentor and develop your team, encourage engineering decision-making, and apply your technical skills to uphold a high standard.
  • Implement iterative launches and continuously improve our offerings.
  • Produce clean, testable code that serves as a benchmark for your peers.
  • Ensure the success of your team's products and deliver measurable results within deadlines.
  • Develop systems, services, and product features across various platforms that have an immediate impact on users.

Required Qualifications

  • Over 12 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Proficiency in Java, Ruby, or Python software development.
  • Experience in developing front-end applications is a plus.
  • Interest or experience in Fintech, Regtech, Blockchain, machine learning, data science, and digital currencies.
  • A curious, passionate, and growth-oriented mindset.
  • Natural curiosity and a desire to oversee all aspects of tool development within a small, rapidly growing team.
  • A strong inclination towards writing and deploying production software.
