Role Summary

OBJECTIVE:

The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver educational content to learners through various instructional methods including lectures, demonstrations, practical exercises, and assessments.

SUPERVISION:
  • Works under the general guidance of the Program Director for the Nurse Aide Program, the Chair of the Health Science Department, and the Dean of the Health Science Department.

CORE FUNCTIONS:

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Deliver comprehensive classroom, clinical, and laboratory instruction to students.
  • Design and implement lesson plans and organize classroom activities.
  • Create and prepare additional materials to complement the approved Nurse Aide I training curriculum.
  • Assess student performance through the development of evaluations and provide individualized support as necessary.
  • Conduct demonstrations using various equipment and machinery; create laboratory tasks to ensure practical experience.
  • Exhibit proficiency in managing hazardous materials and provide training to students on safety protocols.
  • Oversee student activities in laboratory and clinical environments.
  • Engage in curriculum development and participate in faculty meetings as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and academic performance, adhering to program and accreditation standards.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and procedures relevant to the teaching domain.
  • Contribute to the systematic evaluation of program effectiveness.
  • Provide support to fellow instructors as needed.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Nurse Aide Program Coordinator with maintenance of program materials and documentation.
  • Engage in student-related administrative tasks including admissions review and graduation qualifications.
  • Stay informed on advancements in the field and participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Evaluate lesson effectiveness and make necessary adjustments to improve instructional methods.
  • Support student recruitment initiatives.
  • Participate in college committees and institutional activities.
  • Demonstrate active involvement in the community.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge:
  • Understanding of adult learning principles and instructional methodologies.
  • Familiarity with instructional techniques in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings.
  • Knowledge of academic program development and administration.
  • Awareness of current trends and research in health education.
  • Experience working in a high school environment may be beneficial.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical pathway to acquire the necessary qualifications includes:

Minimum Qualifications:

Nurse Aide Level I:

As per the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, the minimum qualifications for faculty in a Nurse Aide Level I program include:
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in North Carolina.
  • At least two years (4000 hours) of experience as a Registered Nurse in the U.S.
  • Completion of a course in adult education or equivalent experience in teaching adults.
Nurse Aide Level II:

Minimum qualifications for faculty in a Nurse Aide Level II program include:
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in North Carolina.
  • Two years of direct patient care experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Experience in teaching adult learners and supervising Nurse Aides.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Experience in acute and long-term care settings.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Strong computer skills.
