Job Summary

Thompson Engineering is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Survey Party Chief to lead our land surveying team in Spanish Fort, AL. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the survey crew, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of survey data, and interpreting blueprints and plans to effectively lead the team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the daily functions of the survey crew, ensuring efficient and accurate data collection.
  • Set up and complete survey crews on job sites under the direct supervision of the Professional Land Surveyor and/or job supervisor.
  • Ensure proper reporting of daily work logs to the Organization Manager.
  • Reduce survey data to the Organization Manager, providing accurate and timely information.
  • Interpret blueprints, plans, and deeds to effectively lead the survey crew.
  • Drive company vehicles to and from job sites, ensuring safe and efficient transportation.
  • Operate all survey equipment, interpreting data to report information to the Organization Manager.
  • Understand and compute field calculations relative to the survey data collected.
  • Effectively manage the time and schedules of the survey crew, ensuring timely completion of projects.
Requirements
  • Five (5) years of verifiable experience in running a crew in surveying commercial and/or heavy industrial construction stakeout.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to read and comprehend measurements.
  • Intermediate math skills, including trigonometry and coordinate geometry.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to work with others.
  • Ability to travel and stay overnight based on the work load of the Survey Department.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in the outside elements of the field up to 100% of the time.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs.
  • Required to remain standing for a minimum of eight (8) hours per day and walk long distances.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and climb on a ladder.
  • Ability to drive a company vehicle to and from job sites.
