Overview

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Evaluate and manage health care for students at Genesee Lake School. Administer medical treatments and respond to emergency nursing situations as they occur.
Supervise and monitor students experiencing illness. Communicate with Food Services regarding any temporary dietary modifications for students requiring special diets.
Dispense medications in accordance with licensing standards, oversee and delegate medication administration for the agency.
Process medication changes from healthcare providers and liaise with pharmacies regarding medications as necessary.
Assist in the check-in process for medications for all students.
Ensure the proper disposal of medications in compliance with licensing regulations.
Provide guidance to the Admissions team on complex medical matters to ascertain the level of support required for a student.
Upon enrollment, perform an initial assessment of psychological needs, medical protocols, appropriate laboratory tests, specialized diets, and coordinate medications with healthcare providers. Compile relevant information for the Treatment Team and establish a medical chart with initial details.

Upon a student's discharge, prepare and present a comprehensive report summarizing their entire stay at Genesee Lake School and their treatment.

Act as a liaison for health services and the contracted physicians at Genesee Lake School. Assist the physician weekly and as required with examinations and ensure adherence to the physician's written directives.
Participate in medication reviews with the psychiatrist as necessary.
Confirm that all required authorizations from consulting physicians have been secured and utilized in accordance with licensing requirements.
Engage in on-call rotation, responding to calls from direct care staff from the Center and Group Homes after hours.
Conduct training sessions for new hire orientation and refresher courses, educating staff on the health care needs of the students.

Collaborate as a member of interdisciplinary teams, fostering supportive relationships among disciplines, departments, and individual staff members in all communications regarding student healthcare, including interactions with families.

Exhibit professionalism, respect, and collaboration in all actions, demonstrating proactive decision-making that nurtures supportive work relationships and a safe, healthy environment.

Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders while maintaining professional conduct and confidentiality.

Stay informed about current trends in services and related areas; attend conferences, workshops, and other training opportunities, sharing new insights with the department.

Adhere to and positively reinforce the expectations outlined in the Company Handbook, including policies and procedures such as emergency/disaster protocols, fire/tornado safety, and confidentiality.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
  • Current licensure with the State of Wisconsin is mandatory.
  • 1-2 years of prior psychiatric nursing experience with emotionally or intellectually disabled students is preferred.

Compensation:
$60,000- $70,000; commensurate with experience

Schedule: 1st shift M-F
