Position Description

The UCLA/Getty Interdepartmental Program in the Conservation of Cultural Heritage at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) invites applications for a lecturer position to teach a course during the Winter quarter, 2025. This role provides opportunities for collaboration with colleagues, access to laboratory facilities, and research infrastructure at UCLA and the Getty Villa. Through its partnership with the Getty Conservation Institute, the Conservation Program is part of a vibrant center of archaeological and cultural scholarship.

Course Title: Conservation and Community: CLT HTG 222

This course is designed for graduate conservation students, focusing on the role of conservators working with indigenous repositories that house cultural collections. Students will explore various models for tribal museums and cultural centers, emphasizing the significance of material selection and properties in the treatment of baskets.

The appointment will be at the lecturer level, located in the Program's research and training laboratories at the Getty Villa. Responsibilities include preparing and delivering lectures, conducting laboratory practical sessions, and supervising conservation treatments. The Program Laboratory Manager will assist the lecturer in procuring lab supplies and cultural objects for treatment.

Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a graduate degree in conservation from a recognized academic institution, with a minimum of five years of experience in conservation practice. Preference will be given to those with prior academic teaching experience, both in delivering theoretical lectures and in developing and supervising object treatments in the laboratory.
