Job Summary

We are seeking an Environmental Protection Specialist to join our team at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. This is a critical role that plays a key part in planning and administering environmental programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement environmental programs to ensure compliance with regulations
  • Administer environmental programs and manage internal reporting activities
  • Advise senior management officials on environmental program status and recommend changes to meet new requirements
  • Interact with federal, state, and local environmental agencies on facility environmental issues
  • Conduct environmental audits, collect data, and evaluate results
  • Train employees and subordinate staff on environmental topics
  • Write inspection reports and recommend corrective action
Requirements
  • GS-11 grade level or higher
  • Specialized experience in environmental protection or a related field
  • Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three years of graduate education
  • Technical Competencies: Communication, Environmental Engineering, Hazardous Materials
Working Conditions

The work involves frequent audits of waste storage areas and requires a good deal of walking, standing, bending, and climbing.
