POSITION SUMMARY:

The Family Support Specialist will embody the YMCA's mission and core values of character development, which include caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. This role is essential in crafting and executing a high-quality program aimed at assisting families and children within the community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct assessments with families to identify their unique needs and challenges.
  • With family consent, facilitate access to community resources and support families in utilizing these services effectively.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and sanitation protocols as mandated.
  • Foster ongoing engagement with families to ensure their needs are continually met and resources are effectively utilized.
  • Collaborate with the Center Director to establish a parent group that focuses on parenting workshops, activities promoting healthy child development, and enhancing parental involvement.
  • Work in partnership with childcare staff and, when necessary, school district personnel to ensure comprehensive support for families.
  • Provide assistance to families in identifying and resolving issues that may affect their children.
  • Maintain close collaboration with the Child Care Center Director to uphold program quality.
  • Complete all necessary documentation and reports as required by relevant authorities.
  • Engage in staff meetings as directed by the Center Director.
  • Demonstrate the ability to follow instructions while also working independently.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is essential.
  • An Associate degree is preferred; however, substantial relevant experience and a High School diploma or equivalent may be accepted.
  • Experience working with families, particularly those with preschool-aged children.
  • Familiarity with social services, community agencies, and available resources.
  • Knowledge of the local community in which the center operates.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the primary languages of the families served.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications and technology.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position involves standard activities such as walking, standing, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, reading, typing, and communicating. The ability to lift up to 20 pounds is required. Reasonable accommodations may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
