Position Overview

This section outlines the primary responsibilities and objectives of the role.

Under the guidance of a supervisor and collaborating with a physician, the sonographer will perform ultrasound examinations on designated patients utilizing advanced diagnostic equipment. While the sonographer will not make diagnostic decisions, they will play a crucial role in collecting sonographic data essential for medical evaluations. It is vital to ensure that all equipment is operational and ready for immediate use, as well as to maintain accurate records of procedures and billing.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities listed below are typical of the work performed in this role. They are not intended to be exhaustive and may include additional tasks as assigned.

All employees are expected to adhere to Joint Commission standards, which include sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient rights, safety protocols, and teamwork. Compliance with ongoing education and training, as well as adherence to safety and quality initiatives, is essential.

  • Document observations during procedures for final review by the physician or qualified medical personnel; acquire necessary diagnostic images for case documentation.
  • Ensure ultrasound equipment and accessories are properly maintained and operational, reporting any issues to the Lead Technician and supervisor.
  • Communicate the examination process to patients, providing instructions and assistance throughout the procedure.
  • Operate diagnostic ultrasound machinery, analyze sound wave patterns, produce and process diagnostic images, and present completed sonograms to the physician.
  • Contribute to maintaining records for research purposes and assist in evaluating new equipment for potential departmental use.
  • Conduct various sonographic procedures using high-frequency sound waves to identify abnormalities such as masses and stones.
  • Implement infection control measures, including proper handling and cleaning of equipment as necessary.
  • Perform Doppler scans, ensuring accurate technique and documentation of results within designated timeframes.
  • Review patient medical histories in the chart information system and utilize prior exams for comparative analysis.
  • Verify required views and adequate anatomical representation during exams, completing them within the established timeframe.
Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities, along with any required licenses or certifications, is acceptable.

Education: License/Certification Requirement fulfilled

Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible and relevant work experience

License/Certification: Certification from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in OB/GYN, along with Nuchal Translucency Certification through NTQR or FMF within six months of employment.

Skills and Competencies

  • Understanding of PACS network principles and electronic image processing systems.
  • Knowledge of ultrasound physics and the propagation of sound waves through tissues.
  • Awareness of safety protocols related to ultrasound procedures and equipment.
  • Familiarity with ultrasound diagnostic procedures and instrumentation.

Compensation

Salary is determined based on the role's requirements and level.

Compensation within our ranges may also be influenced by education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, along with internal equity and market alignment.

Typically, new employees start at the minimum to mid-salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $155,875.20 to $176,737.60
