Overview

Southland Industries is a leading construction company seeking an experienced Project Accounting Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our accounting department, you will be responsible for coordinating all phases of the construction job costing process.

About the Role

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity for an accountant with experience in project cost management. The successful candidate will have excellent accounting knowledge, strong organizational skills, and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities
  • Compile, prepare, and analyze monthly project billings per contract requirements for complex accounts.
  • Monitor budgets and commitments, processing subcontractor and vendor invoices, preparing drafts of owner invoices, and resolving issues.
  • Partner with the project manager and other team members to monitor overall job financial status.
  • Collaborate by preparing for and attending progress and division meetings.
  • Prepare monthly reports with current estimates and identify risks or opportunities.
  • Prepare special analyses as required.
  • Serve as mentor and provide training to or supervise less-experienced Project Accountants.
Requirements
  • Excellent accounting knowledge.
  • Strong organizational skills with high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to transfer knowledge to junior level staff.
  • Excellent ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
  • Computer proficiency with intermediate to expert level ability to utilize MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, etc.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent preferred.
  • 5+ years of Project Accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience in construction preferred.
