Position Overview: The Educational Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting educators in delivering tailored educational programs for students with special needs within a mainstream classroom environment.

  • Collaborative Planning: Work alongside special education teachers to formulate strategies that address each student's unique goals and objectives.
  • Behavioral Reinforcement: Support the development of social and behavioral skills for students, both in and out of the classroom, including accompanying them to different classes as necessary.
  • Independent Facilitation: Engage with individual students or small groups, reinforcing concepts introduced by the supervising educator without direct oversight.
  • Professionalism with Families: Maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with families, ensuring boundaries are respected.
  • Adaptive Strategies: Implement specific techniques tailored to the needs of special education students as situations arise.
  • Data Management: Collect and share relevant information and reports with special education staff and parents.
  • IEP Participation: Attend Individualized Education Program meetings as required.
  • Classroom Modifications: Assist in adapting classroom activities and homework for students who require adjustments.
  • Confidentiality Maintenance: Uphold confidentiality regarding special education students in compliance with FERPA regulations.
  • Behavior Management: Employ effective strategies for managing student behavior.
  • Continuous Professional Development: Participate in training sessions, including Crisis Prevention Intervention and CPR/First Aid, to enhance professional skills.
  • Student Understanding: Develop a comprehensive understanding of individual students, including their needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Monthly Reporting: Complete computerized MIPS forms regularly.
  • Behavior Monitoring: Observe and manage student behavior in various settings, providing support as needed.
  • Therapeutic Reinforcement: Aid in reinforcing therapeutic goals and skills.
  • Task Management: Assist students in staying focused on tasks, providing redirection and positive reinforcement.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to relate well to both children and adults.
  • Knowledge across all academic subjects.
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Proficient computer skills.
Physical Demands:

The physical requirements for this position include activities such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, and repetitive motions. The role may involve exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
