The role involves applying protective coatings and finishing touches to various metal components and completed vehicles. Responsibilities include fulfilling painting specifications, from individual parts to entire vehicle exteriors, utilizing both solid and metallic finishes. The technician will be responsible for mixing materials according to established guidelines and ensuring that all painted surfaces meet the required standards for quality and preparation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prioritize tasks effectively to achieve production targets within the assigned department.
- Foster collaborative relationships with colleagues and team members.
- Adhere to safety protocols and standards specific to the department.
- Conduct spot repairs as necessary.
- Prepare surfaces by sanding and polishing as required.
- Accurately mix coatings with appropriate thinners and catalysts.
- Utilize various spray equipment to apply coatings, ensuring compliance with coverage and gloss specifications.
- Assess and ensure the quality of the paint finish on all components.
- Inspect and clean parts prior to the painting process.
- Follow established procedures to achieve a durable and high-quality paint finish.
- Maintain cleanliness of the workspace and equipment.
- Comply with hazardous waste disposal regulations and fire safety measures.
- Understand and implement the Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan.
Qualifications:
- Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding basic instructions and correspondence.
- Ability to utilize measuring tools effectively.
- Experience with dual-action sanders, grinders, and various hand tools.
- Capable of interpreting shop orders to determine required colors.
- Knowledge of surface preparation standards for paint application.
- Familiarity with quality control measures for achieving acceptable paint finishes.
- Understanding of OSHA and EPA regulations.
- Completion of Hazardous Materials Handling training with annual refreshers.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Willingness to learn about mixing primers and other paint products.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands for handling tools, and reach with arms. Frequent walking is required, along with occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching. Other physical demands include:
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds without assistance.
- Capability to work in various positions, including squatting and bending.
- Ability to work with arms raised for extended periods.
- Comfortable working from ladders or scaffolding.
- Ability to remain at a workstation for up to ten hours daily, excluding breaks.
- Competence in using hand, air, and power tools safely.
- Ability to operate and understand safety equipment.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision and depth perception.
- Ability to handle and dispose of hazardous materials safely.
- Capacity to work in high-temperature environments for extended periods.
- Ability to work in noisy and dusty conditions.
