Job Overview

Effective communication is essential for the military to execute successful operations. The role of the Satellite Communication Systems Operator-Maintainer is crucial in ensuring uninterrupted communication by installing, operating, and maintaining both strategic and tactical multi-channel satellite communication systems.

Key Responsibilities

As a Satellite Communication Systems Operator-Maintainer, your duties will include:
  • Transmitting, receiving, and documenting messages in accordance with military protocols.
  • Encoding and decoding classified communications.
  • Operating telephone switchboards and managing communication equipment.
  • Monitoring and responding to emergency communication calls.

Advanced Operators will also:
  • Provide technical guidance to fellow Soldiers.
  • Identify and report instances of electronic jamming and deception.
  • Implement suitable electronic countermeasures.

Job Duties
  • Conduct both stressed and unstressed network operations.
  • Maintain satellite communication equipment and related devices.
  • Prepare necessary system and equipment-related documentation and reports.

Skills Development

Throughout your training, you will acquire valuable skills, including:
  • Utilization of various communication equipment.
  • Working with encrypted codes.
  • Maintenance and care of communication devices.

Essential Skills

Ideal candidates will possess:
  • A strong interest in communication technologies and satellite systems.
  • The ability to perform under pressure, both physically and mentally.
  • Teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate effectively.

Compensation and Training

Instead of incurring costs to learn these skills, you will earn a paycheck while gaining experience. In the Army National Guard, you will receive comprehensive training, including 10 weeks of Basic Training to learn fundamental Soldiering skills, followed by 18 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT), combining classroom instruction with field exercises under simulated combat conditions.
