The Outpatient Registered Dietitian will engage with patients to enhance their overall health and wellness. The dietitian will provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) counseling tailored to both individuals and groups.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments of patients' nutritional risks and health status following established protocols.
- Evaluate patients' broader health, social, and emotional needs, making referrals as necessary.
- Collaborate with patients, families, and caregivers to formulate and execute personalized nutrition care plans.
- Deliver individual and group counseling focused on medical nutrition therapy for chronic health conditions.
- Work in tandem with the healthcare team to identify patient needs and propose actionable recommendations.
- Guide patients to available resources within the healthcare system.
- Document care plans promptly in the medical records.
- Develop and endorse nutrition protocols for patient care.
- Assist in creating and updating educational materials on nutrition and dietary guidance.
- Facilitate nutrition education classes and programs, including diabetes management and wellness initiatives.
- Support outreach activities and integration of services under the guidance of the Integrative Health & Wellness Manager.
- Participate in required meetings and contribute to internal and external committees.
- Engage in professional development and adhere to all hospital policies and procedures.
- Exhibit exceptional customer service and maintain positive interactions with patients and colleagues.
- Communicate effectively with the team regarding progress and challenges.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Current certification as a Registered Dietitian in California, with evidence of ongoing professional education.
- BLS Certification from an accredited organization.
- Ability to present information clearly on nutrition and health topics.
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster effective working relationships.
- Knowledge of evidence-based nutrition therapy and dietary principles.
- Proficiency in tracking information and preparing reports.
- Ability to adapt and apply written guidelines effectively.
- Competence in using computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with electronic health records.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong initiative and ability to manage changing priorities.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Capability to handle multiple tasks efficiently with attention to detail.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and listen. The role involves frequent use of hands for computer work, report writing, and equipment handling. The employee must have good vision for reading schedules and entering data accurately. The ability to lift up to 30 pounds is required, along with standing and moving for approximately 50% of the workday. Proper body mechanics should be utilized when handling equipment.

Adherence to the Compliance Handbook, including the Code of Ethics and all applicable regulations, is mandatory. Responsibilities include reporting any suspected violations of relevant statutes or guidelines.
