Job Title: IT Systems Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled IT Systems Engineer to join our team at Connecticut Water. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for ensuring the stability, security, and efficient operation of our information systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and monitor systems to ensure smooth operation
  • Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software, and system management tools
  • Proactively maintain high levels of systems and infrastructure availability
  • Monitor and test application performance, identify bottlenecks, and collaborate with developers to implement solutions
  • Maintain security protocols, backup strategies, and redundancy measures
  • Write and maintain custom scripts to enhance system efficiency and reduce manual intervention
  • Work closely with project managers, software developers, hardware engineers, and other stakeholders
  • Provide 2nd and 3rd level technical support
  • Communicate with vendors and other IT personnel to resolve issues
Requirements:
  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Proven working experience in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Windows-based environments
  • Solid administration and performance tuning experience with application stacks (e.g., Microsoft SQL, Remote Desktop Services, Azure)
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, preferably AWS
  • Knowledge of virtualization and containerization (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V)
  • Enterprise backup and recovery procedures (Rubrik)
  • System performance-monitoring tools
  • System patching and hardening
Preferred Experience:
  • Networking, switching, firewall, network access controls, wireless, programming languages, HTTP traffic, content delivery, and caching
Working Conditions:

On-call availability one week per month

Sitting for extended periods working on a computer

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components

Occasional inspection of cables in floors and ceilings

Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects up to 30 lbs., such as computers and peripherals

Works approximately 100% of time in temperature-controlled environment conducting administrative duties
