Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Recreation Therapist to join our team at the Eastern Colorado Health Care System VA Hospital. As a Recreation Therapist, you will play a vital role in providing therapeutic recreation services to our patients, promoting their physical, emotional, and social well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct assessments and develop treatment plans to address patients' recreational and leisure needs.
  • Provide individual and group therapy sessions, including aquatic therapy, fitness and wellness programs, and adapted sports and leisure activities.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care and coordinate services with other healthcare professionals.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based recreation therapy interventions to address complex medical and mental health issues.
  • Document patient progress and maintain accurate records of treatment plans and outcomes.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to recreation therapy services.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Recreation Therapy or related field.
  • Current certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
  • At least 1 year of experience in recreation therapy, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines, with a focus on delivering high-quality patient care.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with patients with spinal cord injuries or multiple sclerosis.
  • Knowledge of adaptive sports equipment and recreational activities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.
