Position Overview

The Head of Aviation Operations will oversee the secure and effective management of the Academy's fleet and flight training initiatives.

This role encompasses the administration of United Aviate Academy's (UAA) aviation division, including scheduling, staffing, and financial planning for the Flight Operations sector.

The Head will also supervise the training prerequisites for all pilots within the organization, ensuring compliance with FAA regulations and standards.

This position provides leadership and guidance to the flight operations personnel.

Key Responsibilities
Establish operational policies and standards, particularly in safety protocols.
Foster a culture of efficiency and execution to cultivate a high-performing team.

Assess UAA's equipment for usability, safety, and adherence to relevant FAA standards during flight, on the ground, and in maintenance.

Engage in FAA test flights and ground assessments.
Continuously learn regulatory and certification documentation to enhance job effectiveness.
Direct and expand the flight operations team and its capabilities.
Document requirements and manage logistics for remote flight operations.
Ensure compliance with administrative policies, safety regulations, and government mandates.
Monitor expenditures to align with approved budgets.

Organize and manage team workflows to meet organizational objectives.

Develop and implement policies and procedures for the flight department.

Provide leadership to flight operation team members, including Chief Pilot of Standardization, Chief Pilot of Instructors, Scheduling, and Flight Operations Specialists.

Conduct performance reviews for all direct reports in accordance with Academy standards, ensuring accountability.

Collaborate with department members on scheduling to optimize the use of aircraft, personnel, and students.

Work with the Finance department to create an operational budget for the flight division and maintain expenditures within budgetary limits.

Advise Academy leadership on aircraft and equipment needs, staying informed about new developments in aviation training.

Engage with stakeholders including Finance, Human Resources, Safety & Security, Academy Services, and United Airlines.

Exhibit strong communication and leadership skills, with a commitment to motivating and mentoring team members in line with our CORE4 values.

Design, manage, and track Flight Operations KPIs; proactively address issues, make strategic decisions, and drive effective outcomes.

Assist in ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding flight operations and training delivery.

Promote flight safety across the operations department, supported by the Chief of Standards, Chief of Instruction, and Director of Safety, Security, and Compliance.

Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, striving to meet student needs and fostering excellence in collaboration with Standards, Instruction, Safety & Security, Operations, Academy Services, and others as needed.

Support the Chief Flight Instructor in liaising with the FAA to ensure adherence to regulations and United's standards.

Participate in management meetings, ensuring effective communication and alignment across business functions.

Assist management with special projects as needed.

Qualifications
Required:
5+ years of substantial management and leadership experience.
5+ years in the aviation sector.
3+ years in aviation management, with knowledge of FAR Part 141 as it relates to human factors. Familiarity with FAA policies, orders, advisory circulars, and TSO Minimum Operations Performance specifications.
Experience in managing personnel, budgets, aircraft, and vendor contracts.
Knowledge of regulatory compliance, detailed tracking, and reporting, including FAA regulations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, with advanced Excel skills.
Preferred:
In-depth understanding of 14 CFR, FSIMS 8900, and aviation regulations.
Previous experience as a Chief Pilot or Assistant Chief Pilot in Part 141/135/121 operations.
FAA CFI and CFII (Gold Seal CFI) certifications.
Prior leadership experience in a FAR Part 141 organization or collegiate aviation program.
Experience with Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, PowerBI, and related systems.
Proven track record in developing and implementing training programs and TCOs.
Experience with flight school scheduling systems and maintaining detailed training records in compliance with safety practices.Education
Bachelor's degree in Business or Aviation Management or equivalent leadership experience.
