Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Microbiology Manager to join our team at Saint Francis Hospital. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for directing and coordinating the administrative and technical systems of the Microbiology department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and coordinate the administrative and technical systems of the Microbiology department.
  • Report to the Director of Laboratory and participate in the development, interpretation, and application of departmental policies, budgets, personnel management, and planning for laboratory services.
  • Provide effective and efficient administration of laboratory services.
  • Perform duties as assigned by the Director.
  • Routinely report to the Director on monthly quality assurance parameters, productivity, departmental or site problems, statistics, and quality control reports.
  • Prepare reports, documents, payroll records, and statistical surveys for the Microbiology lab.
  • Meet with laboratory staff on a regular basis to discuss laboratory issues and concerns, and ensure staff is supported.
  • Cooperate with the Director to develop and update strategic laboratory volumes and improve laboratory services.
  • Coordinate laboratory activities on site and cooperate with laboratory leadership in the successful operation of performance improvement initiatives.
  • Develop interdepartmental relationships to assist in future patient care and reengineering plans.
  • Develop communication plans regarding changes in laboratory practices and provide consultations.
  • Represent the laboratory department in work groups or committees as assigned.
  • Communicate effectively and consistently with the Director.
  • In cooperation with the Director of Laboratory and Laboratory Medical Director, develop and promote laboratory services and programs consistent with the mission and goals of Trinity Health System.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of clinical laboratory advances and changes in practice in Microbiology and Molecular Diagnostics.
  • Develop clinical lab services to meet the requirements of accrediting agencies and Trinity Health Laboratory customers.
  • Maintain compliance with laboratory accreditation and regulatory standards and guidelines.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness and appropriateness of laboratory services provided at all testing agencies.
  • Make recommendations for improving or correcting any deficiencies.
  • Monitor standards of performance and customer satisfaction levels to ensure the quality of all aspects of clinical laboratory testing.
  • Assist laboratory leadership team in the development of employee orientation and competency programs.
  • Provide education sessions for clinical laboratory employees.
  • Ensure that the frequency of quality control and proficiency testing provides for quality testing levels and meets the standards of all accrediting agencies.
  • Ensure that departmental supplies and reagent inventory are at optimum levels.
