We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Cook to join our team at Kaiser Permanente. As a key member of our culinary team, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of foods for our patients, guests, and staff. Your attention to detail and commitment to quality will ensure that our food meets the highest standards of taste, presentation, and safety.
Key Responsibilities:- Prepare and cook large quantities of food for service, including scratch cooking from basic ingredients and garnishing in an attractive manner.
- Participate in recipe development and communicate effectively with team members to ensure seamless execution.
- Follow recipes to prepare and cook food items, modifying or converting recipes as needed for different quantities, special diets, and other requirements.
- Perform opening and closing duties, including daily equipment checks and temperature monitoring, and ensure proper food safety protocols are followed.
- Document Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point logs on a routine basis and maintain a clean and organized food production area.
- Coordinate food orders with the production team and assist Food Service Aides as needed, including checking incoming orders for quality, temperature, and quantity.
- Store leftovers according to established standards and plan for daily, holiday, and theme menus in collaboration with the supervisor.
- Assume lead responsibilities during scheduled working shifts and ensure smooth operation of cafeteria services during the supervisor's absence.
- Maintain inventory of all food and supply items and ensure cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, food storage, and work areas.
Minimum two years of hospital, institutional, or restaurant cooking experience, including food preparation.High School diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.ServSafe Food Handler Program Certificate required at hire or Food Handling Certificate required at hire.Preferred Qualifications:
Associates degree in institutional food preparation.Post-high school on-the-job training in basic institutional food prep and cooking.
