Dialysis Nurse Position

Position Overview

We are currently in search of a dedicated Dialysis Nurse to enhance our team. The Dialysis Nurse is responsible for overseeing dialysis treatments in alignment with established policies, procedures, and training, while adhering to both state and federal regulations. This role involves ensuring the smooth operation of the unit and collaborating effectively with the hemodialysis healthcare team. The Dialysis Nurse will supervise the activities of dialysis technicians while actively participating in patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional customer service to all stakeholders, including patients, families, staff, and healthcare providers.
  • Educate patients continuously about their renal conditions, vascular access, dialysis procedures, and related health issues.
  • Assign tasks to dialysis technicians to ensure the safe and effective administration of prescribed dialysis treatments.
  • Guide dialysis technicians in accordance with compliance standards, policies, and regulations set by state and federal authorities.
  • Provide, oversee, and evaluate hemodialysis care in line with established protocols.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation by dialysis technicians.
  • Conduct pre- and post-treatment assessments, documenting interventions and patient responses.
  • Monitor patient reactions to hemodialysis therapy, making necessary adjustments to treatment plans as required.
  • Ensure proper collection and packaging of lab specimens in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines.
  • Collaborate with other members of the hemodialysis healthcare team to interpret, modify, and coordinate patient care.
  • Document all relevant information, including physician orders, lab results, medication administration, and patient conditions, accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Review lab results promptly and communicate critical findings to the physician.
  • Complete patient assessments and care plans in a timely manner.
  • Maintain overall shift operations in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.
  • Administer prescribed medications and ensure appropriate documentation.

Physical Requirements

This role requires the ability to walk and stand for extended periods, as well as stoop and bend. Light lifting of up to 25 lbs is necessary. Close mental, visual, and auditory attention to patients is essential. The work environment is typical of a healthcare facility, featuring controlled air temperature and moderate noise levels. Exposure to infectious and contagious materials may occur.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  • Possession of a current and valid state nursing license.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience.
  • Experience in dialysis is mandatory.
  • Certifications: CPR certification required.
