Position Overview
We are in search of a dedicated Renal Care Nurse to become an integral part of our team. This role involves overseeing dialysis procedures in alignment with established policies, protocols, and regulatory standards. The Renal Care Nurse is responsible for the unit's operations and collaborates closely with the hemodialysis healthcare team. This position includes supervising dialysis technicians while actively participating in patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver exceptional service to all stakeholders, including patients, families, healthcare staff, and physicians.
- Educate patients about their renal conditions, vascular access, dialysis processes, and related health issues.
- Assign tasks to dialysis technicians to ensure safe and effective dialysis treatment as prescribed.
- Guide dialysis technicians in accordance with compliance standards, policies, and state and federal regulations.
- Provide, oversee, and evaluate hemodialysis care in accordance with established protocols.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation by dialysis technicians.
- Conduct pre and post-treatment assessments, documenting interventions and patient responses.
- Evaluate patient reactions to hemodialysis therapy, making necessary adjustments to treatment plans.
- Ensure proper collection and packaging of lab specimens following Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines.
- Collaborate with the hemodialysis healthcare team to interpret, modify, and coordinate patient care.
- Document all relevant patient data, including physician orders, lab results, medication administration, and treatment parameters, in the electronic medical record.
- Review lab results promptly and communicate critical information to physicians.
- Complete patient assessments and care plans in a timely manner.
- Maintain a safe, efficient, and effective operational environment during shifts.
- Administer prescribed medications and maintain accurate documentation.
This role necessitates prolonged walking and standing, as well as bending and stooping. The candidate must be capable of lifting light weights, up to 25 lbs. Close mental, visual, and auditory attention to patients is essential. The work environment is typical of a healthcare facility, featuring controlled air temperature and moderate noise levels, with potential exposure to infectious materials.
Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
- Possession of a current and valid state nursing license.
- A minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience.
- Experience in dialysis is mandatory.
- Current CPR certification.
