Metadata and Collection Development Librarian

Hartnell College is seeking a highly skilled Metadata and Collection Development Librarian to join our team. As a key member of our library staff, you will be responsible for performing a variety of professional librarian duties, including original and copy cataloging, resolving complex cataloging problems, and establishing equity-based procedures regarding controlled vocabularies.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform original and copy cataloging and resolve complex cataloging problems in a consortial environment.
- Establish equity-based procedures regarding controlled vocabularies.
- Provide direction and oversight in the operation of the technical services department, including acquisitions and budget, cataloging, processing, and serials functions.
- Develop and monitor collection development budget.
- Coordinate collection development of print and electronic materials across the entire collection in accordance with DEIA principles.
- Oversee Special Collections and work to increase access to archival materials through digitization or other means.
- Assist in regularly scheduled reference, instruction, and information services, including some evening and weekend hours.
- Instruct and guide patrons in the use of library materials in-person and remotely.
- Participate in planning and management of the library, including budgetary and personnel decisions and assessing library services and instruction.
- Prepare written reports and statistics.
- Participate in the planning and management of the library in collaboration with other librarians, including assessment of library services.
- Teach library/information competency courses.
- Participate in department, division, and college planning and shared governance through committee and/or other institutional service.
- Work outside of the academic year to prepare library services.
- Assignment may also include public services, grant writing, and other related duties.
- Master's degree in library science or library and information science, or the equivalent.
- Two years of recent professional technical services experience, preferably in an academic setting.
- Experience with the Alma library management system, including cataloging and acquisitions.
- Knowledge and experience in cataloging a wide variety of formats using national bibliographic standards and formats.
- Experience and knowledge in the selection and maintenance of library materials and in developing an equity-focused collection.
- Experience in collection development, procurement, budget, and fiscal control.
- Knowledge of emerging trends and developments in library technical services, digital library initiatives, digital preservation, and community college libraries, including projects to support DEIA initiatives.
- Experience with a library's role in higher education to promote equity, achieve information literacy, and support career development.
- Experience with resource sharing with other libraries: public, academic, and private.
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence in service.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and collegial working relationships with colleagues, students, faculty, and staff.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience in teaching information competency courses, orientations, and providing reference services to a diverse population.
- Demonstrated project management skills in library operations, including deselection and redesign projects.
- Full-time, tenure-track Librarian faculty position.
- Starting faculty salary range is $74,643.00 to $157,676.00 annually based on 185 days per academic year.
