BWXT is seeking a highly skilled Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer to join our team in Lynchburg, VA.
Job SummaryThe Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer will be responsible for ensuring plant operations comply with NRC requirements to prevent criticality accidents.
Key Responsibilities- Perform NCS analyses to define the safety basis for SNM operations.
- Advise production personnel on the impact of process changes and facility modifications.
- Execute computer models to evaluate normal operations and process upsets with regards to NRC License limits.
- Determine limits and controls to maintain operations critically safe.
- Evaluate accident sequences and identify Items Relied On For Safety to ensure a criticality is highly unlikely.
- Approve operating and maintenance procedures important to the safety of operations.
- Participate in audits and inspections, investigations of unusual incidents, and design reviews.
- A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is required.
- Preference given to candidates with Nuclear Engineering or Physical Science focus.
- Must possess at least four (4) years of related experience.
- Previous NCS experience preferred, especially in an NRC licensed fuel cycle facility.
- Working knowledge of 10 CFR Part 70 is a plus.
- Must be able to demonstrate superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Must be highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
- Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.
