As a rapidly expanding, privately owned hotel management firm, we operate 26 select service properties across California, including brands such as Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Best Western, and Choice Hotels.
This pivotal position will collaborate closely with both the Corporate Finance Team and the Executive Team, addressing accounting and financial needs for each property. The aim is to provide financial guidance and technical expertise to enhance profitability and protect hotel assets.
Key ResponsibilitiesEssential duties of the Senior Corporate Staff Accountant include:
- Providing daily training and mentorship to the Accounting Team.
- Acting as a financial advisor, offering insights on the financial implications of business decisions to management across all levels.
- Ensuring adherence to hotel and accounting policies, legal standards, and contractual commitments through robust internal controls and auditing practices.
- Facilitating the training of accounting department personnel in line with established objectives and procedures.
- Managing Gross Receipts, Business Taxes, and the preparation and filing of 1099-Misc forms.
- Assisting in the annual tax preparation for hotel and development entities.
- Overseeing the financial reporting for development entities.
- Coordinating external reporting to lenders and investors on a quarterly basis.
- Preparing ad-hoc financial reports as required.
- Generating accurate and timely monthly financial statements, including accruals, account reconciliations, and variance analyses.
- Ensuring the precision of monthly/quarterly sales, use, and occupancy taxes, while investigating and resolving discrepancies.
- Preparing and reviewing budgets, forecasts, operating results, and ensuring compliance with sales and related tax regulations.
- Maintaining compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Addressing inquiries from properties, vendors, ownership, or management, conducting necessary research to provide reliable information.
- Overseeing the installation and maintenance of accounting software systems.
- Conducting periodic audits of budget items, comparing theoretical expenses to actual costs.
- Continuously evaluating internal accounting processes for accuracy and efficiency.
QualificationsThe minimum qualifications for this role include:
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting, profit and loss reporting, and managing ledgers for operating and balance sheet accounts.
- Proven experience in leading a team and managing multiple properties or entities.
- Strong analytical skills for numerical data evaluation and solution formulation.
- Ability to logically define problems, gather information, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; experience with M3 is advantageous.
- Willingness to undertake additional duties and special projects as assigned by Corporate Controllers and Excel Hotel Management.
