JOB SUMMARY: The Project Assistant Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the design, development, and execution processes associated with the scope managed by the Asset Management Programs team. This position assists the Project Manager in organizing and establishing effective project management practices, coordinating creative design decisions, and overseeing the production of construction documents. The goal is to mitigate contract claims and disputes while minimizing change orders during construction phases.

The Project Assistant Manager effectively manages project changes, reduces interface disruptions among project participants, maintains and enhances project schedules and budgets, and ensures high-quality design and construction work. This role emphasizes hands-on management of field operations, maintains operational use of completed facilities during ongoing construction, and establishes a competent and experienced staff while implementing efficient document control.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Project Manager in preparing construction documents, including Drawings, Construction Specifications, Scopes of Work, and General Conditions.
  • Provide management oversight on assigned projects.
  • Support the Construction Manager in monitoring changes or delays to the construction schedule, including evaluating contractor performance and coordinating schedules with other groups.
  • Oversee weekly three-week look-ahead updates and monthly overall updates, developing recovery plans as necessary for schedule variances.
  • Monitor quality assurance of the project through regular site visits to ensure compliance with contract documents, documenting and resolving any questions or clarifications that arise.
  • Assist the management team with the bidding and awarding of construction documents, including developing a bidders list and preparing Requests for Proposals (RFPs).

EDUCATION: An Associate degree (AA) or equivalent in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field is required. A Bachelor's degree in a similar field is preferred.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or commercial facilities construction is required. Experience in delivering construction projects through design and construction phases, as well as in project scheduling, estimating, and the bidding process, is essential.
