Job Summary:
Super Micro Computer is in search of a dedicated individual to fulfill the role of Senior Thermal Solutions Engineer.

This position entails overseeing the architectural design, analysis, and validation of water cooling technologies at the cluster level to cater to the needs of HPC customers.

The successful candidate will employ and advocate for a design methodology that incorporates estimating, simulating, and testing the thermal performance of innovative products and architectures.

The ideal applicant will possess a robust foundational knowledge in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and the application of thermal solutions within enterprise electronics.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing and validating thermal solutions for HPC cluster platforms in accordance with industry standards.
  • Assessing system layouts, power consumption, airflow, acoustics, sensors, and conducting related mechanical testing.
  • Executing cluster-level thermal analysis, definition, and testing, including chamber test setups, thermocouple installations, and automated data acquisition.
  • Engaging in thermal debugging, system optimization, and comprehensive documentation.
  • Evaluating structural and thermal elements to ensure feasibility while specifying thermal interface materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Overseeing the development, design, documentation, and implementation of all cluster-level water cooling projects for customers.
  • Additional responsibilities encompass rack integration, documentation, facility preparation, on-site service, and providing support for PM/Sales/Field Application Engineer customer projects.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Thermal, or Mechanical Engineering; a Master’s degree is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in the server/PC industry focusing on mechanical or thermal functions is essential.
  • Proficient knowledge in thermal management hardware, heat transfer materials, and cooling devices at a rack/cluster level is required.
  • Strong understanding of general mechanical/thermal engineering analysis, validation, documentation, and communication.
  • Familiarity with mechanical/thermal systems (cooling devices, airflow, temperature, power, cooling, mechanical design) alongside electrical/power systems (power distribution, AC power types, power calculations, DC power, regulatory/safety) is beneficial.
  • Experience with server/rack liquid cooling solutions, including DCL (direct chip liquid cooling), rear door liquid cooling, liquid immersion cooling, and chilled water piping, is a plus.
  • A collaborative spirit and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment are essential.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Willingness to travel for on-site customer deployments.

Salary Range: $145,000 - $159,000. The offered salary will be influenced by various factors, including location, level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience, and comparisons to existing employees in this role. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may qualify for other forms of compensation, such as participation in bonus and equity award programs.
