Job Summary

PHMC is seeking a highly skilled Expanded Function Dental Assistant to support our dental team in providing high-quality care to patients. As an EFDA, you will work under the supervision of a Dentist to deliver clinical support and assist with various dental procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pre-Procedure Preparation: Prepare dental instruments, supplies, and equipment for patient procedures.
  • Patient Care: Assist with patient positioning, explain procedures, and collect patient health histories.
  • Dental Materials: Prepare dental materials, cements, amalgams, composites, impression materials, and other necessary supplies.
  • Radiography: Take radiographs using conventional or digital technology, following radiation safety precautions.
  • Charting and Record-Keeping: Assist with dental charting and maintain accurate records of patient information.
  • Emergency Response: Assist in the prevention and management of dental emergencies.
  • Post-Procedure: Follow proper infection control protocols and prepare the operatory for the next patient.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort

The Expanded Function Dental Assistant will work in a fast-paced clinical environment, with moderate physical activity required. The role involves working with blood or blood-borne pathogens and requires OSHA training.

Requirements
  • Certifications: Current CPR/AED certification, National DANB Radiation and Safety exam Certificate of Completion, and State Board of Dentistry EFDA exam Certificate of Completion.
  • Education: Graduate from an EFDA assisting program at a two-year college or completion from a state-accredited certification EFDA program.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years as a dental assistant preferred.
