We are seeking a highly skilled Child Life Specialist to join our team at RWJBarnabas Health. As a Child Life Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing therapeutic, educational, and diversional services to patients and their families.
Responsibilities:- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate child life services to meet the therapeutic, educational, and diversional needs of patients.
- Develop and coordinate programming for various age and diagnostic groups, matching developmental level, interests, and emotional state.
- Conduct individual sessions, team treats, procedural support, and patient family teaching in a developmentally and culturally appropriate manner.
- Evaluate child life services and make recommendations to improve patient and program outcomes.
- Collaborate with patient, family, and team to develop treatment plans that reflect the principles of pain management.
- Supervise and assist with student interns as designated.
- Effectively utilize and supervise volunteers and visiting groups.
- Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Early Childhood Education, or a related field.
- Completion of Child Life internship.
- Child Life Certification or eligibility to obtain certification within one year of hire.
- American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Provider Certification.
- Driver's License.
- Work or volunteer experience with children with special needs.
- Physical stamina to lift, maneuver patients, and equipment.
- Cognitive ability to evaluate patients and complete documentation.
- Ability to drive hospital vehicles.
- Ability to plan activities and adapt to the environment to suit a variety of diagnoses.
- Tact, enthusiasm, initiative, and professional judgment in performance of duties.
- Ability to manage time efficiently and effectively.
- Good communication skills.
