Position Overview
The Clinical Nutrition Specialist is responsible for developing tailored dietary plans as per the directives of the attending physician, overseeing the food service operations, and conducting nutritional evaluations for patients as required, adhering to all relevant laws, regulations, and standards set forth by Life Care.
Qualifications and Experience
A Bachelor's degree in dietetics or a related field accredited by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is required. Candidates must be currently registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and fulfill licensure or certification requirements as mandated by state law.
It is essential to maintain an active license in good standing throughout the duration of employment and to be registered with the American Dietetic Association. Previous experience in nutritional assessment and planning is necessary, with a minimum of two (2) years in a healthcare environment preferred. Experience in post-acute care settings is advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
• Familiarity with the standards of practice for assessing geriatric patients.
• Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances require.
• Knowledge of the practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and guidelines governing operations in a post-acute care facility.
• Implement and interpret departmental programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
• Exhibit proficiency in all competency areas, including patient rights, safety, and sanitation.
• Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, vendors, and other stakeholders.
• Ensure confidentiality of all proprietary and sensitive information.
• Adhere to company policies, including those related to harassment and compliance.
• Demonstrate integrity and professionalism by following Life Care's Code of Conduct and completing necessary compliance training.
Essential Duties
• Consult with patients and their families regarding nutritional needs and objectives.
• Review menu plans to ensure they align with patients' nutritional requirements and uphold quality food service standards.
• Develop modified dietary plans as instructed by the attending physician.
• Accurately input dietary information in a timely manner (e.g., patient records, dietary databases).
• Participate in interdisciplinary patient care meetings focusing on nutrition.
• Assist with additional food service responsibilities as needed.
• Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive demeanor towards patients.
• Aid in the safe evacuation of patients when necessary.
• Exhibit regular and dependable attendance.
• Utilize reasoning skills and sound judgment in all situations.
• Communicate effectively and collaborate productively within an interdisciplinary team.
• Perform physical tasks such as sitting, standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, walking, reaching, and moving intermittently throughout working hours.
• Read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language.
