Job Overview

A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Medical Assistant (MA) plays a vital role in delivering patient care under the guidance of a Physician Practitioner. This position involves various patient care tasks and essential non-professional services aimed at ensuring the comfort and personal needs of patients are met. The LPN/MA contributes to patient care through a systematic approach that includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation, while considering factors such as aging, human development stages, and cultural diversity.

  • Adhere to safety protocols and infection control measures.
  • Stay informed about clinic policies and assist in their updates.
  • Ensure compliance with the organization's regulatory requirements and compliance plan.
  • Make informed clinical decisions and prioritize tasks based on patient needs.
  • Engage in practices that enhance patient care efficiency and effectiveness.

Additional Duties

  • Take responsibility for actions impacting patient care continuity.
  • Complete daily assigned tasks diligently.
  • Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of work areas and equipment.
  • Be flexible in accepting assignments across different units as needed.
  • Follow established work practices and demonstrate thoroughness in tasks.
  • Report any unsafe conditions or equipment promptly.
  • Maintain organization and efficiency in task completion.
  • Anticipate potential issues and propose solutions proactively.
  • Support colleagues with additional tasks as required.
  • Maintain a steady work pace and remain engaged in duties.
  • Possess the knowledge and skills to effectively communicate with patients across various age groups, including:
    • Infants
    • Pediatrics/Adolescents
    • Adults
    • Geriatrics

Supervisory Role

No supervisory responsibilities are associated with this position.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program (for LPN candidates).
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program (for MA candidates).
  • Ability to meet specific competencies required for this role.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Preferred: One year of experience in an office setting.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Current LPN licensure or Medical Assistant certification, as applicable.
  • CPR certification required or willingness to obtain.
  • Additional certifications may be necessary.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Capability to climb, balance, stoop, and kneel as needed.
  • Frequent use of hands for various tasks, including lifting and moving objects.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds, with assistance for heavier loads.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, color vision, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment

  • Work is conducted in a well-lit, climate-controlled office environment.
  • Potential exposure to communicable diseases and medical materials.
  • Noise levels are generally quiet to moderate.

Compliance Training

Participation in training and meetings is required to meet compliance standards as outlined by Hillsboro Area Hospital's Corporate Compliance Plan and Code of Conduct. Understanding compliance responsibilities and knowing how to report concerns is essential.
