POSITION SUMMARY:
The role of an experienced ID/OD Grinding Specialist is tailored for a proficient and skilled individual in various machining disciplines. This position is tasked with the ID/OD grinding of turbine engine components to meet precise specifications. Our clientele includes leading global entities in the aerospace and marine sectors of turbine engine power. The final output must adhere to the standards set by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
This role is situated within a comprehensive Machining Department that encompasses CNC Vertical Turning Lathes, Milling, Grinding, Manual Milling, Tool & Die, Research & Development, CNC Programming, and dedicated machinist trainers. The successful candidate will collaborate with a team of seasoned and professional machinists, facilitating continuous exchange of techniques, skill enhancement, print interpretation, and understanding of technical drawings.
The position operates within a modern, climate-controlled facility equipped with state-of-the-art technology.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set up and operate both horizontal and vertical grinding machinery to execute grinding tasks on a diverse range of turbine engine components.
- Select, install, and dress grinding wheels, making necessary adjustments in setups. This may involve various work-holding and measuring devices for accurate alignment and concentricity.
- Operate machines to remove material to achieve required dimensions before and after the application of coatings, or to define part features.
- Loading and unloading parts is integral to the setup process.
- Adhere to both written and verbal work instructions, utilizing approved gauges and tools to inspect parts for necessary material removal.
- Employ precision measuring instruments to evaluate work.
- Document findings accurately on provided work instructions and documentation.
- Occasionally participate in the training process, sharing expertise in the on-the-job training program for various levels of machinist technicians.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A minimum of five years' experience operating vertical and horizontal grinding, honing, and lathe equipment, whether CNC or manual, including but not limited to: Campbell, Springfield, Frauenthal, Cincinnati, Sunnen.
a. Experience in a job shop environment.
b. Familiarity with made-to-order production.
c. Experience with first article inspections.
2. At least five years of experience in creative problem-solving related to:
a. Machine setups.
b. CNC programming (feeds and speeds).
c. Tooling and grinding wheels.
d. Fixturing.
3. Strong understanding of:
a. Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
b. Critical dimensioning.
c. Relationships between dimensions.
4. Demonstrated CNC control capabilities on grinding equipment, including:
a. Editing speeds.
b. Feeds.
c. Tool offsets.
d. Fixture offsets.
5. Previous experience or knowledge of:
a. Rework processes.
b. Setting zero work offsets with grinding wheels.
c. Understanding differences in grinding wheels.
d. Ability to assist in developing and troubleshooting grinding processes (engineering involvement).
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Familiarity with shop mathematics and basic trigonometry.
- Ability to read technical drawings and documentation.
- General skills in using hand-held power tools, assembly, and disassembly.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding English to communicate effectively with colleagues.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- This position requires pre-employment testing, which may include fitness for duty assessments and vision examinations.
- Adhere to general shop safety protocols, including the occasional use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection.
- Ability to stand and/or sit for portions of the shift and move parts weighing over 50 pounds using appropriate handling methods.
