Position Summary

UIC Technical Services is seeking a skilled Telecommunications Operations Manager to oversee critical operations and ensure the successful execution of our projects.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Supervising daily operational activities.
  • Implementing and maintaining the Quality Control Plan alongside contract obligations.
  • Generating and submitting necessary workload reports.
  • Engaging with the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) and the NEC Director to assess operational performance, address ongoing challenges, and devise technical strategies for specialized initiatives.
  • Managing all aspects of operations, including personnel oversight and client support.
  • Reviewing system and equipment documentation, identifying task conflicts, proposing solutions, conducting site assessments, and submitting required documentation for permits.
  • Monitoring and diagnosing alarm systems.
  • Executing routine preventative maintenance on telecommunications hardware and systems.
  • Diagnosing and replacing defective circuit packs and switching apparatus.
  • Addressing customer service inquiries related to data connectivity issues.
  • Installing and troubleshooting T-1 lines.
  • Monitoring and resolving trunk-related issues.
  • Facilitating adds, moves, and changes within the system.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience in telecommunications management to support all operational functions.
  • A minimum of three years in a leadership role managing daily operations of a telecommunications team.
  • Proficiency in programming switches and executing Moves, Adds, and Changes (MACs), including maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting.
  • Possession of IAT Level II certification (COMPTIA Security+).
  • Completion of Avaya Communication Manager administrator training.
  • Experience with Avaya S8700 systems.
  • Familiarity with voicemail systems such as CallWare or equivalent.
  • Current U.S. government Secret security clearance.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Capability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to twist, bend, and squat as necessary.
