Civil Engineer Trainee Job Description

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Civil Engineer Trainee to join our team. As a Civil Engineer Trainee, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in the field of civil engineering, working on a variety of projects and tasks that will prepare you for a successful career in this field.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform developmental work assignments in all phases of highway and bridge design, construction, and maintenance.
  • Develop a basic understanding of departmental policies, procedures, organizational responsibilities, and workflow.
  • Participate in classroom training and on-the-job learning activities to gain exposure to engineering areas of design, construction, maintenance, and highway safety and traffic.
  • Work closely with district personnel and procedures to gain familiarity with district operations and participate in work projects to achieve the overall training objective.
Requirements:
  • Four years of civil engineering experience, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
  • A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or in a closely related field, which includes or was supplemented by major coursework in civil engineering.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes possession of an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
