The Manufacturing Process Engineer plays a pivotal role in ensuring operational excellence within the production environment. This mid-career position requires a comprehensive understanding of unit operations and processes to effectively analyze, instruct, and collaborate with team members to achieve daily production objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive unit operations to fulfill Safety, Health, Environmental, Quality, Cost, and Production targets.
- Offer technical assistance for designated manufacturing units, including performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and quality assurance.
- Oversee Process Safety Management (PSM) initiatives, including Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-startup Safety Review (PSSR) as necessary.
- Lead incident investigations utilizing Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and other methodologies.
- Provide subject matter expertise to various functions such as Maintenance, Manufacturing Technology, and Quality Assurance.
- Coordinate maintenance activities in alignment with the Work Management Process (WMP) alongside Maintenance Coordinators and staff.
- Communicate daily operational plans and coordinate unit activities effectively.
- Expertly manage plant startup and shutdown procedures for both planned and unplanned events.
- Assist in strategizing for the efficient use of resources and assets.
- Employ Six Sigma and lean methodologies to identify and implement solutions for process improvement.
- Mentor and coach junior staff and interns, enhancing the team's skill set to meet organizational objectives.
- Establish robust communication channels within the unit to promote information sharing and employee engagement.
- Adhere to food safety and quality standards, including HACCP, GMPs, and QA policies.
- Perform additional duties as required by evolving business needs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 2 years of experience in an industrial or process engineering setting.
- Proven ability to gather and analyze data, identify solutions, and make informed business decisions.
- Familiarity with Process Safety Management practices, including MOC and PSSR.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities and commitment to safety standards.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and capable of learning new software systems.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with solids drying technologies and wastewater management.
- Background in capital project management from development to execution.
- Knowledge of environmental regulatory compliance.
- Familiarity with maintenance best practices and Work Management Processes.
- Experience with Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA).
- Proficiency in key software tools such as SAP and SharePoint.
- Certification in Six Sigma and knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles.
Additional Preferred Experience:
- 5+ years in a food manufacturing or chemical production environment.
- Strong preference for candidates with a Chemical Engineering degree.
- Aspirations for growth and leadership within a plant setting.
