Job Overview:

The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for executing comprehensive computer systems analysis as an MS Windows/Linux Administrator within the operational infrastructure department of the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. This role reports directly to the Manager of Data Center Services.

The position involves overseeing the planning, budgeting, and analysis related to the administration of Linux/Windows operating systems, focusing on enhancing existing system infrastructures and automating processes.

This role operates with minimal supervision, allowing for significant initiative and independent judgment. Familiarity with cloud service providers and administration of cloud services (preferably AWS) is essential.

Key Responsibilities:
Maintain regular attendance in accordance with agency policies. Undertake additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Coordinate the architecture, planning, and support of the systems infrastructure.

This includes the implementation and configuration of both hardware and software components to fulfill organizational needs while monitoring system performance.

Collaborate with Operations and Application teams to ensure effective deployment of infrastructures supporting the systems. (25%)

Provide expert-level administration for Linux and Windows servers in a high-availability environment. Manage network and storage administration for Windows and Linux platforms.

Offer configuration and upgrade support for a diverse range of applications and services on these servers, including but not limited to LDAP/Windows Active Directory, DNS, Microsoft SQL Server, VMware, printer services, and backup solutions.

Plan and coordinate server maintenance activities with the Data Center Contractor, including security patching and other tasks related to the Security Program.

(10%)

Administer security controls and hardening measures; implement security control plans, corrective actions, and remediation strategies.

Respond to system and security audits, ensuring compliance with evidence control implementations. Assist in maintaining a suite of security tools. (10%)

Provide 24/7 server and application support on a rotating on-call basis; assist the applications team with installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of various applications (Cognos, Informatica, Kofax, Adobe Experience Manager, BMC products, and various monitoring tools). (20%)

Analyze and resolve WINDOWS and LINUX system issues while providing consultation on complex projects. (5%)

Manage change and work requests through the Operations ticketing system. (5%)

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Extensive knowledge and experience in network facilities, data processing techniques, computer hardware and software, network operating systems, and security software, as well as performance monitoring and capacity management tools.


Proficient in using LDAP/Windows Active Directory/DNS/GPO, Microsoft SQL Server, and VMware.

Familiarity with Windows Server Administration (Group Policy, Kerberos, NTLM, TCP/IP, WINS, DNS, DHCP, PXE), Linux, Network Administration, IT Governance, and Security/Privacy policies and tools.


In-depth understanding of Active Directory, LDAP, DNS, Domain Infrastructure management, and Microsoft SQL Server.

Ability to organize and direct work activities.

Proficient in identifying problems, analyzing alternatives, and recommending effective solutions.

Capability to prepare concise reports tailored to the audience.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships.

Experience in cloud systems administration - AWS preferred.

Proficiency in VMware vCenter/VMs design, implementation, and administration - Preferred.
