Job Summary

The University of the Incarnate Word is seeking a Student Lifeguard to join our team. As a Student Lifeguard, you will be responsible for monitoring the safety of patrons and conditions of the pool, reporting to the Assistant Director of Sports and Wellness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain lifesaving skills through in-service and personal training;
  • Monitor pool chemical levels;
  • Report any non-functioning equipment or operations to the Director of Sports and Wellness;
  • Perform other duties as assigned;

Requirements

  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations;
  • Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork;
  • Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures;
  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions;
  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures;
  • Dependable and punctual;
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA;

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous lifeguard experience;
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification;

Work Environment

  • Must be available to cover shifts as required;
  • Will be required to cover holiday and school break schedules as required by the Director of Sports and Wellness;

Physical Demands

  • Ability to swim 500 m in 20 minutes in order to pass lifeguard certification;
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical skills evaluation as stipulated by the department;
