Position Specific Description


This role is situated within the Environmental Permitting Section of the Corporate Environmental Services Department, contributing to the development of new renewable projects for NextEra Energy Resources and its affiliates.

The chosen candidate will oversee a team of environmental specialists dedicated to the environmental permitting of projects across the southeastern United States.

This position is located in NextEra's Juno Beach office. Remote candidates are not being considered. This role necessitates some travel.

The position offers the chance to leverage your environmental expertise to assess and secure permits for renewable energy initiatives.

You will provide guidance to multidisciplinary teams regarding environmental site limitations and permitting strategies to facilitate the development of a diverse array of energy projects, including wind and solar; energy storage solutions such as batteries, hydrogen, and hydro; as well as transmission infrastructure.

Key responsibilities include managing a team of Environmental Specialists/Project Managers and collaborating closely with development teams to identify and evaluate potential project sites, as well as to complete federal, state, and local environmental licensing and permitting throughout the southeastern United States.


The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 3 years of experience in managing environmental professionals.

A qualified candidate must have experience in assessing critical environmental constraints for renewable projects and in applying for and supporting permits from land use agencies at the county, state, and federal levels, along with a comprehensive understanding of relevant environmental regulations such as the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and National Historic Preservation Act.

The successful candidate must maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant national and state-level environmental policies and regulations, effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders, subject matter experts, and assist in resolving complex environmental issues.

He or she must foster positive working relationships with local agency personnel and Non-Governmental Organizations operating in the area.

This position is responsible for overseeing multiple complex environmental issues, licensing and permitting processes, legislative development, staff resources, and related activities to provide management support to NextEra Energy, Inc.

  • Secures all necessary federal, state, and local environmental licenses, permits, and approvals for development projects.
  • Supports various projects with intricate environmental and regulatory challenges and assists in comprehensive environmental due diligence assessments for potential acquisitions.
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant national and state-level environmental policies and regulations.
  • Interacts with internal and external stakeholders, subject matter experts, and others, assisting in the resolution of complex environmental issues.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, as well as company policies.
  • Translates regulations and permits into actionable compliance tasks for construction.
  • Provides specialized environmental expertise and technical support.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
