Job Summary:

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for the administration of radioactive materials to humans of all ages for diagnostic, therapeutic, or research purposes. This role performs nuclear medicine exams or treatments at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed independent practitioner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform all duties of a Nuclear Medicine Technologist I.
  • Capable of safely administering radiopharmaceuticals and adjunctive medications, including the identification of incompatibilities and/or interactions.
  • Expected to assess a patient's risk for allergic reaction prior to administration of radiopharmaceuticals and adjunctive medications and follow appropriate protocols for escalation of concerns.
  • Expected to evaluate pertinent lab values prior to administering radiopharmaceuticals or other related medications and beginning the ordered examination.
  • Capable of providing accurate explanations and instructions to the patient and family using age-appropriate language and verifying that the patient understands and agrees to the completion of the ordered exam.
  • Capable of performing ordered exams or therapy in accordance with established imaging protocols while respecting the patient's ability and comfort.
  • Capable of adhering to policies and utilizing protocols to determine that expected outcomes have been met.
  • Capable of documenting deviations from protocol and/or patient-specific issues that may impact image quality.
  • Expected to timely complete all required post-processing, image display, and transfer for physician review.
  • Expected to timely order closure, charge entry, and PACS QA completion.
  • Expected to routinely cover open shifts as appropriate based on your level of competency.

Requirements:

  • Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) or Registry by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist - Nuclear Medicine (ARRT-N) and have successfully completed their 6-month orientation.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers)
